Hi everyone! I’m super excited and thankful that I get to participate in the Lenz Bros Abroad blog. I can’t wait to share my adventures in Japan with all of you! I just wanted to do a first post before I leave on September 8th.
I’m going to give some information on the blog for any of you who are confused about my program or major, because sometimes I even get confused! I’m going to be living in Kyoto, Japan for 2 years, and studying at Ritsumeikan University. I’m not in a study abroad program, I actually enrolled at Ritsumeikan University. When I graduate, I will get a degree in Japanese and English, signed by the president of American University and Ritsumeikan University. My classes are all in English through the international relations department, and I’m staying in an international dorm with students from all over the world. My full degree title is Global International Relations, with a focus in East Asia and the Pacific, and I will likely tack on a minor in Japanese soon.
Because I am actually moving to Japan, the first month I will take you on the journey of me doing very adult things for the first time, but in another country with a language I’m not fluent in quite yet. Things like enrolling in health insurance, getting a Japanese bank account, going to the doctor, getting a phone plan, getting over culture shock, and cooking my own meals consistently without burning down my dorm. I have a lot of friends I can rely on who are in the same boat, and we will get through it together. Don’t worry the first couple blog posts won’t be too boring I’ll still have time to explore and show you guys pictures of the amazing 2,000 year old temples that Kyoto is famous for!
I can’t wait to go on this adventure with all of you! Thanks again for the OG Lenz Bros for letting me post on your amazing blog.
